Welcome of Episode 57 of Doc Rockavoy's Indy Music Garage! Well, this week pretty much showed that Americans cannot sacrifice to end a major pandemic plaguing our planet. 45,000 plus infections yesterday in the UXA, and I haven't even checked today. There are people who live in far-Right false consciousness and will not adhere to any public health measures with skyrocketing infections throughout the South and Southern Plains. There are the typical unreliable, progressive liberal haute bourgeoisie that Marx and Engels despised so much, who cannot be inconvenienced to discontinue their status-seeking by dining, shopping, and resuming their summer vacation travel taking their families on a death march. Then there's the rest of the suckers like us who do not want to catch the virus and stay home except for groceries and other essentials like beer and cigarettes!

So that is why my podcast is up and running again, I do not want to get sick and have resigned to stay home as much as possible! For those at home, these shows are for you!

I put on a bunch of punk, hardcore, and hard rock and roll to punch through the July 4 weekend and its usual jingoism. I started the show with Philly's Mt. Vengeance, which is a superstar line-up of Philly punks who are now ready for Tiger Beat Magazine! Forget the old and tired band reunions, at 50+ in age this entire album shows they are skilled songwriters and full of vital originality. No one trick pony here. I decided to put on a bunch of Boston bands like Sorry, Bullet LaVolta, and Gang Green. There's a song by San Francisco's The Breakouts (bet you never heard of them). There are more Philly bands with Zen Guerilla, and a bunch of Oklahoma bands like Your Mom, The Disposables, Wicked Shimmies, Zombie vs. Shark, Low Litas, and Broncho. Then there's the usual famous bands.....and some local Lincoln bands as well like Gripping, Bogusman, Universe Contest, and Red Cities.

We've been getting into the summer, with its sultry temperatures and serene, southerly Plains breezes, bringing forth the cicadas soon and their velvety unison. The world wakes up in its verdant hallucinations, washing over the senses with the calm of spring and summer. What a magical turn from the nadir of the winter and its alienated endurance. Goodbye winter.

This show is for the quieter moods of summer and everyone stuck at home during the pandemic.

I put on the new Roy Montgomery record, released by Grapefruit Records in Omaha, a real stunning release for a small indy label. I put on lots of bands by the late David Roback, one of the finest guitar players in the psychedelia underground of the West Coast, who passed away in February this year. I put on rare 12" E.P. in the transition from Opal to Mazzy Star with Kendra Smith on vocals. There's also a lot of Preoccupations on the show; Purling Hiss, The Sinners, and Bardo Pond from Philadelphia; Jet Black from Montreal; The Funns, Zomes, and Alvvays, fun bands. There's a track on a weird MBV L.P. I bought which was basically the follow-up to Loveless on an obscure German label, which is a really cool album.

Welcome to Episode 55 of Doc Rockavoy's Indy Music Garage! It's been a long time since I posted a show, as there were some major changes in my life in the past year. Then the coronavirus hit. Then our racist, capitalist, settler colonial country marched the working class back to work in their Neo-Darwinian gamble to salvage an already over-speculated economy from the last throes of late capitalist accumulation crisis. Then white supremacist infiltration into law enforcement reared its ugly head in the police murder of George Floyd, and repression of peaceful protests across the country, led by the white nationalist administration currently ruining our country as a corrupt plutocracy.

So I thought I'd start up my podcast again, and you can expect regular weekly shows as we shelter in place to curb the pandemic.

There's a bunch of garage and new wavy punk rock on the show today, and some other stuff like locals Lincoln bands Gripping, Sputnik Kaputnik, Eddy Mink, and Red Cities. Welcome to Episode 54 of Doc Rockavoy's Indy Music Garage! With the summer monsoon season upon us in the Great Plains, I thought it a good idea to run out another show today. There was a ton of great shows in Lincoln this week/weekend, so I put some locals on the show today. Check out Universe Contest, David Nance, and Red Cities, and also other Great Plains bands like Broncho and Zombie vs. Shark.

I put on a few, new Philadelphia bands, No Thank You and Mannequin Pussy, that have really great albums, so be sure to check them out. I got to see No Thank You when they toured our way this summer. There's old Philadelphia bands, Zen Guerilla and The Sinners, on the show and check out The Sinners' album on Modern Peasant Records, it's a garage rock classic!

Welcome to Episode 53 of Doc Rockavoy's Indy Music Garage! I haven't posted show in over a year but I will remedy that in the coming year! My band Red Cities released a second L.P. "Soft Target" last November, and we've been busy with that since summer 2017. It received good reviews in our local paper the Lincoln Journal Star and in Big Takeover Magazine, posting as #60 in its "Best Albums of 2017." We also got some airplay on Little Steven's Underground Garage on Genya Ravan's show, and also on WFMU, WKDU, and some other radio stations. Now that's run its course, I can get back to my podcast and play new and old records I've accumulated since that time.

There's a number of Preoccupations/Vietcong tracks on the show, one of the great, new post-punk bands out touring and recording at the moment. I had the opportunity to see them twice this spring in Philadelphia and Los Angeles when I was on the road doing book acquisitions. They are a phenomenal band, and I had the chance to talk to their guitarist Daniel after their great (but way under-attended) Philadelphia show. We liked the same post-punk bands and also Vox AC30s, and I convinced him to whittle down his pedal rig and let the Vox ring through. When I saw them again in Los Angeles, I ran into him and their drummer Michael, and they noted they'd been getting rid of guitar pedals and letting their amps/Celestion greenbacks ring and chime through their melodic compositions. They had a phenomenal run of sold out shows in Los Angeles at The Echo, just epic performances despite having All of their gear stolen in San Francisco. Their fans gave $30K in two days to get them back on the road. We were paid back two night in row for our support!

Speaking of post-punk, this show is devoted to this splintering off of the original punk scene 1975 to 1979, although of course both musical movements overlap. I put on a song off the 1987 Rites of Spring 7" released on Dischord that was such a milestone of US post-punk. There's some Siouxsie and Banshees, an original post-punk band, and also some great new work by Protomartyr from Detroit; Jawbox, The Swirlies, New Zealand experimental guitarist Roy Montgomery with also Flying Saucer Attack. There's also some tracks from Cheatahs, Swervedriver, Spaceman 3, Dum Dum Girls, and Lincoln's own Universe Contest, Omaha's See Through Dresses, and Kansas City's Dark Satellites. I also put a track off the first Spain album, a masterpiece of ambient guitarwork with my old friend Evan Hartzell on drums.

The show is a whopping 160 minutes! Welcome to Episode 52 of Doc Rockavoy's Indy Music Garage! We're finally in springtime and hitting the 80s and 90s already, so I thought I'd do a show this afternoon. I've been traveling a lot lately and just returned from Philly, which was really cool to see some old friends. Other than that we've been working on our garden; my son is almost done with school; and been getting together the new Red Cities record "Soft Target." I'm headed back to Philly in a few week, and after that, Vancouver. After those work trips, it's just summer vacation after summer vacation.

Oh, I got bored and started the "Star City" chapter of the Turbojugend, the Turbonegro fanatic group. It's the only time I'll be president of anything. Everyone else in our Turbojugend is a vice president! We're going to sponsor some benefit gigs around town for community organizations, and also me and Destroyer are dj-ing a punk and rock record night once a month.

Today's show features some old, classic punk rock stuff like The Zeros, Angry Samoans, Gray Matter, The Damned and other bands in that late 70s/early 80s first generation. I've also been buying a lot of reissues of records I had only read about as a kid, but had never seen for real. After these records hit the cut-out bin, they were usually thrown away in the trash. So there's bands like The Heartbreakers, The Testors, The Dead Boys, Iggy and the Stooges, Death, The Saints and others on the show. I also put on some new stuff I like a lot like Zen Guerilla, Turbonegro, The Dirtbombs, The Red Aunts, Slant 6, David Nance, Broncho, Ex Hex, Chain and the Gang, Off! and other new punk/garage stuff.

Welcome to Episode 51 of Doc Rockavoy's Indy Music Garage! We had a dreary, rainy weekend so I decided it was time to put up another show. The show today tends towards psychedelia, experimental, space rock, and other ethereal types of music. Some of it is remarkable because it has no precedent in rock and roll and its compositional forms. However, you can hear the influence of jazz, R&B, and classical music compositions throughout the show made electric.

Many of the artists on the show who had begun making music in the late 80s/early 90s also do not tour extensively or play much anymore, since the proliferation of file-sharing, youtube, and other ways of making music available over the internet. They have full-time, day jobs. In many ways, this has undercut the basis of earnings and monthly income for recording artists, and has made it difficult for independent labels to continue and compete with the multi-integrated media corporations that control mass, musical taste in the United States and around the globe. Basically, music is currently in the "Era of Suck," and yes, I'm being judgmental because I'm not responsible for other people making crappy music, they are. Get past it and support independent music if you can.

As a result, I've made some improvements to my show page. To your Right, there is list of independent records labels, and some bigger music groups with subsidiary labels, where you can buy the Records/LPs that I play on my show. Every record on all my shows was recorded for the show, and I have a healthy collection approaching 1000 records. You have no excuse not to buy a cool record!

Fanzine writers once asked Ian MacKaye and Jello Biafra how they had so many records some years back. They replied, "we don't drink or do drugs, so I have a lot of records." Get your priorities straight and support your favorite bands and local bands.

On the show today is the new Preoccupations (ex-Vietcong) record that is just as stunning as their first LP "Vietcong." The first record, unnoted by any music journalist, was the great anti-war and socialist record of the 2010s, indeed 21st Century so far. How Pitchfork, Magnet, and its ilk missed this fact baffles me. I also put on some very local stuff like Aleister X, The Sinners, Purling Hiss, Broncho among others. I put on this wonderful cassette release by Jet Black  called "Dead Horse One" which has two great tracks, so check it out, it has a download.

Welcome to Episode 50 of Doc Rockavoy's Indy Music Garage! I haven't posted a new show in a while, and since we're having an ice storm I decided it would be a good time. I accumulated some new vinyl and then went through my music collection and had forgotten some stuff I own! It's on the show today. I've been grinding away at book publishing, traveling, and doing a new record with Red Cities so it cramped my style for doing podcasts.

There's mostly local vinyl and music on the show because it's the best music in the U.S. right, and it's not corporately-assembled. Welcome to Episode 49 of Doc Rockavoy's Indy Music Garage! It has been some time since I've done a show, so it was time to roll out new and old vinyl for a fall podcast. This year has been a little hectic with lots going on. Red Cities cut a demo in the spring, after playing a lot over the winter; our drummer had a baby girl; everyone is buy in the band doing other stuff; and we're gearing up for Lincoln Calling, our local music festival. We've been chilling at home with our son, and trying to keep up with our gargantuan garden, it was on growth hormones this summer!

There's a lot of awesome vinyl on the show today like Killing Joke live in Toronto in 1982; a nice live Magazine album I found recently; and some Dream Syndicate. There's also a Kendra Smith one-off on a split single with Keith Levene and Hillel Slovak. Welcome to Episode 48 of Doc Rockavoy's Indy Music Garage! It was a good day to put a show together, after the blizzard last night. This is an indoors blizzard-cast with some stuff on the show that is gathering interest now among younger indie music fans and bands. Remember Lush? What a great band. I'll cut to the chase, early spring according to Unadilla Bill.

I put on some short, in-between tracks that bands sometimes do on their albums, like Calexico, MBV, and FSA among others. Some of these interludes are great compositions. I put on this live Dream Syndicate album I found recently, the new Jet Black record, some hard to get Bardo Pond, and some stuff off my label, The Sinners. There some Harold Budd on here, too, remember him? Lots of feedback guitar music on the show. That Vietcong album just grows on me, what an amazing band (and socialists as well).

Welcome to Episode 47 of Doc Rockavoy's Indy Music Garage! I have not had time to do a new podcast in some time, between work and gigging with Red Cities. On my travels and our gigs, I was able to find some nice vinyl for this show, some of which is super-indy vinyl, like the Chicago band Vamos! on the show today. The weather is sucky today on my first day off, so it was perfect for putting a holiday playlist together this morning.

I put the show together today by choosing records and songs that were unpatriotic, retarded in terms of beat, and offensive in lyrical content, with some non-offensive stuff on here as well. Go see a psychiatrist if you feel offended for some reason!

I put on some Dragons, since they used to play the Christmas Eve show at the Casbah in San Diego, a great night to bail on the family. Welcome to Episode 46 of Doc Rockavoy's Indy Music Garage! It's been raining every weekend in Lincoln for the last 6 weeks; nice and warm during the week; torrential rain during the working man's two days off. It's put a cramp on skateboarding and hanging outside, so it's been a bit like winter in that regard.

I've been traveling a bit this spring, and had a chance to visit some good records stores around the country and find stuff I've wanted in my record collection, new stuff and old stuff that is actually old or reissued. I almost bought the first Black Market Baby album in Philly last month, but it cost too much. When Tesco Vee came through there to play, he ended up buying it! But he's a rock star.

I put on some new local releases, Dirty Talker and Halfwit, and I had a chance to see LA Witch last weekend, so there's a single on the show. There's also Aleister X (Doug Anson from The Gelcaps), The Disposables, Flipper, Johnny Thunders, and The Saints. I was lucky enough to get a reissue of the Angry Samoans "Back from Samoa" recently, since some lame college D.J. walked off with about half my punk record collection some years ago. I've been trying to rebuild it when I see missing vinyl. I also found a Killing Joke remix single with "Eighties" on it.

Welcome to Episode 45 of Doc Rockavoy's Indy Music Garage! I got some new albums recently, used and new, and thought I'd do a new show. We emerged from a brutally cold winter, and it must be over since it's been 70 degrees or so all week. Good time to share some tunes.

I've been re-reading a bunch of punk rock histories of the U.S. and England lately, and it has been interesting thinking about how shitty the period 1975 to 1992 was in the West, with the rise of the New Right and the last gasp of the consensus over the liberal welfare state. It's no wonder punk rock and its offshoots started at that time; kids who graduated high school or college worked shit jobs and had no future, so why not nihilistically tell the older generations to "f*ck off?" The way things are today, I see this coming around again. The youth are our future.

Today I thought I'd put on some new records, like the new Viet Cong disc, which is really exciting, much as The Fall was exciting. I put on this Stiv Bators solo record I found, and he was in the Dead Boys if you don't know. I found my Unrest record, and I forgot how heavy they were. I also put on a few local items, from Sputnik Kaputnik and Twinsmith, two great Nebraska bands of dozens of great bands here. There's also some weird stuff like 9353, Zomes; and Reptile House.

The show is about 98 minutes.

Welcome to Episode 44 of Doc Rockavoy's Indy Music Garage! Since it was -20 today, I decided to stay home and put a show together, with some local Lincoln NE bands and some rare stuff out of my record collection. Sit back and enjoy the show during this Arctic blast!

I put a a bunch of new local music on today, like Sputnik Kaputnik, which is kind of like Devo and weird, 70s LA stuff I've heard. There's some Powers on the show, and go see them Wednesday night at Duffy's for the New Year's Eve show. I also put on some King Thumper, Once a Pawn, and Halfwit.

There's a track from a weird single I found, with Keith Levene and Hillel Slovak on one side, and Kendra Smith on the other. If you don't know who those people are, I can't help you! I also have the new Chain and the Gang record, "Minimum Rock and Roll"; a My Bloody Valentine release that was supposed to be the famed "post-Loveless" album, put out by a German label; and this great Ann Arbor band The State, whose E.P. was mixed by Ron Asheton.

Welcome to Episode 43 of Doc Rockavoy's Indy Music Garage! Today the show is dedicated to Modern Peasant Records, a Norman OK-based punk, garage, and stoner rock label. The label was started by Robert and Nate from The Putters back in 2010 to put out The Putters annual jam session/recording sessions in Ellensburg, where Nate lives. Then is morphed into a music publishing platform for Robert and Nate's "whore bands," or bands that were not The Putters, like Zombie vs. Shark and The 667s. Then it just became more like a community-based record label for friends of Robert and Nate, taking on bands like John Wayne's Bitches, Red Cities, and The Sinners. It's motto is "Resistance is Feudal," and it's basically aimed to put out all the rad music that the crappy, major record industry won't publish, and that is local in nature. All good indie music is local, so that is where MPR's work is concentrated. To date, Modern Peasant Records has put out 13 releases, with more in the future from Norman/Chickasha band Bite Me! and some other stuff on the horizon.

Welcome to Episode 42 of Doc Rockavoy's Indy Music Garage! I haven't posted a new show in awhile, and mostly it's been that I've been out of town for work this fall. Drag on my love of music, but I was able to find some rad local vinyl and some classics at record stores around the country. I'm impressed with the amount of local vinyl coming out of music scenes around the country. All music is local music.

I have a bunch Lincoln NE local vinyl and digital releases on the show today, as they city keeps cranking out excellent indy music. I usually make a point to buy a band's record when mine plays a show with them, so make sure you buy a record when you go to a show. Guitar strings and drum heads add up, and all that money goes into studio recording for the bands. I'm a preachy blowhard about this, but it makes a big difference.

I have some tracks on the show by The Inner Party, Bogusman, Halfwit, and some other local Lincoln bands like Producers of the Word and Weldon Keys. The new Broncho record is on, and it's really good as well as the new Low Litas record. I found some old stuff like Stiv Bators, The Slickee Boys, and Black Market Baby, in addition to the The Velvet Monkeys, James Williamson and Iggy Pop, and a live Dream Syndicate 45 rpm. There's other cool stuff on here, like the Fugazi demos.

Welcome to Episode 41 of Doc Rockavoy's Indy Music Garage! It has been some time since I posted some music, mostly since I've been slowly acquiring some new vinyl, and have not much to play. The summer is in doldrums at the moment, so I figured it was a good time to get a show going. Somber, humid, languid, alienated, joyful. We've been good this summer, and hope all of you have been as well.

I put a couple special items on the show. The Montreal band Jet Black sent me the promo of their new record, "In Paradox," and if you like Swervedriver, you will like Jet Black. Dischord Records released in the recent past the Rites of Spring demo to their album, and there is a track from that on the show. I put on some Zomes, one of Asa Osbourne's many projects. There's a rare pre-Opal track on here, when Kendra Smith, Keith Mitchell, and David Roback first got together to track. I decided to catch up on my Bardo Pond vinyl, so there's some here as well. There's two bands from Modern Peasant Records, Red Cities and The Sinners, on the show whose albums are out in the next 1-3 weeks.

Welcome to Episode 40 of Doc Rockavoy's Indy Music Garage! The winter this year has been pretty brutal, with minus temperatures most of January, so I thought I'd do a new show today and rotate in some new vinyl purchases lately. 5 more weeks of winter, and the weather should be getting warmer. We'll see what the groundhog will say tomorrow.

There's some rare stuff on the show today, like Happy Go Licky, the band after Rites of Spring with all the same members. It's an early Peterbilt Records release and a live show recording. There's also a John Peel Session of Captain Sensible's "Antipope." I also put at track from the new Broncho single, and if they come to your town, you need to check them out. There's a track from The Atom Age, as well as new tracks from Johnny Marr and local Lincoln, NE favorites, Weldon Keys. There's a rad track from Debris'.

Welcome to episode 39 of Doc Rockavoy's Indy Music Garage! It's been some time since I posted a new show, as things have been busy this past summer and fall. I've been gigging with my new band, Red Cities, and co-running a record label, Modern Peasant Records, with Robert and Nate from The Putters. In between, I've gotten some new vinyl and found some old stuff in my record collection to put on the show.

For the new stuff, there's some Times New Viking, their first album on Siltbreeze Records, and also a Pre-Opal track on a rare release by Kendra Smith, from The Dream Syndicate with David Roback and William Mitchell. There's a live track from the re-issue of Come, 11:11 and the re-mastered Queens of the Stone Age first album, as well as the Lungfish ACR sessions release. I put on a track by Death, too.

I found my TSOL E.P., and "Man and Machine" kicks off the show. I put on a rare Rocket from the Crypt single, on Merge Records, "Pigeon Eater" for the The Atom Age guys we played with in Lincoln, who are much influenced by them.

There's some local Lincoln, NE bands on the show, off Dirty Talker's "Letters," and also Powers first release. There's a hot, rock'in track from the The Putters "Good Friends with Your Mother" E.P., as well as Red Cities "Burnout." I found the first Green River album, so there's something from that here.
