Detroit Valentine

Detroit Valentine

Welcome to Episode 49 of Doc Rockavoy's Indy Music Garage! It has been some time since I've done a show, so it was time to roll out new and old vinyl for a fall podcast. This year has been a little hectic with lots going on. Red Cities cut a demo in the spring, after playing a lot over the winter; our drummer had a baby girl; everyone is buy in the band doing other stuff; and we're gearing up for Lincoln Calling, our local music festival. We've been chilling at home with our son, and trying to keep up with our gargantuan garden, it was on growth hormones this summer!

There's a lot of awesome vinyl on the show today like Killing Joke live in Toronto in 1982; a nice live Magazine album I found recently; and some Dream Syndicate. There's also a Kendra Smith one-off on a split single with Keith Levene and Hillel Slovak. There's a bunch of Philadelphia vinyl on the show as well, Scab Cadillac, POD (not the shitty one), Zen Guerilla, some of Doug Anson's projects with his alter ego, Aleister X with Brother JT that he so kindly sent along to me! There's a Thee Lolitas track on here given me by Arnold in DC last summer. The Red Aunts reissue on In the Red starts the show, and you can wish your band is that good.

The show is 110 minutes! The playlist is: Red Aunts, Thee Lolitas, The Gories, Bikini Kill, Turbonegro, Aleister X and Brother JT, The Damned, Johnny Thunders, Degeneration, The 667s, Zen Guerilla, POD, Scab Cadillac, Aleister X, The State, Bullet Proof Hearts, Captain Sensible, Stiv Bators, Killing Joke, Magazine, Dark Satellites, Red Cities, Savages, Volcano Suns, Jawbox, Cheatahs, Jet Black, Lungfish, Moving Panoramas, Broncho, Vivian Girls, Meat Puppets, Ponyshow, and Kendra Smith.

Thanks for tuning in!

Sound in Time

Sound in Time

Welcome to Episode 48 of Doc Rockavoy's Indy Music Garage! It was a good day to put a show together, after the blizzard last night. This is an indoors blizzard-cast with some stuff on the show that is gathering interest now among younger indie music fans and bands. Remember Lush? What a great band. I'll cut to the chase, early spring according to Unadilla Bill.

I put on some short, in-between tracks that bands sometimes do on their albums, like Calexico, MBV, and FSA among others. Some of these interludes are great compositions. I put on this live Dream Syndicate album I found recently, the new Jet Black record, some hard to get Bardo Pond, and some stuff off my label, The Sinners. There some Harold Budd on here, too, remember him? Lots of feedback guitar music on the show. That Vietcong album just grows on me, what an amazing band (and socialists as well).

There's a few tracks off the new Flying Saucer Attack record, get it at Drag City Records.

The show is a whopping 116 minutes! The playlist is: Flying Saucer Attack, Mazzy Star, The Sinners, The Dream Syndicate (live), Vietcong, FSA, Red Cities-Sha Sha, Lungfish, The Skull Defekts, French Toast, Hot Snakes, 18th Dye, Flipper, FSA, Calexico, Come, My Bloody Valentine, Jet Black, Bardo Pond, Harold Budd, et. al., Lungfish, FSA, Lush, MBV, Zomes, Bardo Pond, FSA, MBV, Lush.

Enjoy the show, buy these records, and thanks for tuning in!
